Supporting mobile construction and building classrooms in Surrey
As part of our commitment to community involvement through charitable giving and education initiatives VT Four S has renewed its sponsorship with the Surrey Education Business Partnership to support one of their mobile construction and building services engineering classrooms.
Mobile classrooms visit schools around Surrey on a weekly basis, giving students in Years 10 and 11 the opportunity to develop skills needed in the construction and engineering industries. Run by Surrey Education Business Partnership, the programme develops practical skills and academic understanding which can lead to apprenticeship opportunities or full-time course of study at colleges.
The fully staffed mobile classroom operates in at least 18 Surrey schools and colleges each week, aiming to provide students with the highest combination of study skills and practical ability. Students learn topics such as heating and ventilating systems, duct working, pipe fitting and basic skills associated with heath and safely, drafting and sustainability. Tutors work with students to achieve the nationally-recognised two-year Edexcel Skills for Working Life Award or an OCN certified accreditation.
Interest for the programme was expressed by the HRH Duke of Gloucester who visited Reigate School in May 2007. The Duke met students during a joinery lesson as part of work to help bridge identified skill gaps among young people in Surrey.
VT Four S’ contribution will go towards the day to day running of the mobile classroom.
