National PSHE CPD Programme
PSHE education is an important area of the curriculum that helps children and
young people grow and develop as individuals and as members of families and
communities. It makes a significant contribution to the five outcomes within
Every Child Matters.
The National PSHE continuing professional
development (CPD) programme has been running for six years and around 10,000
teachers, community nurses and other professionals have undertaken the
programme. VT Group manage the programme on behalf of DfE with
accreditation provided through Roehampton University.
The National PSHE
CPD programme is designed primarily for teachers across all phases but is also
open to community nurses and other professionals actively engaged in the
delivery of a planned programme of PSHE education in schools and other settings.
The aims of the programme are to:
• improve the competence and
confidence of those delivering PSHE education
• raise the quality of
teaching and learning in PSHE education to improve the knowledge, understanding
and skills of children and young people
• effect positive change in PSHE
education on curriculum planning, leadership, delivery and development within
schools and other settings
• provide accredited recognition for
individuals’ knowledge, experience and skills related to teaching, learning and
practice within PSHE education.
