Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Status

VT Four S is the HLTA Regional Provider of Assessment (RPA) for London and the South East, and is proud to be the country’s largest provider of HLTA services. We have been an enthusiastic driver of HLTA development since the introduction of the status in 2004, as part of the broader workforce remodelling agenda.

The status has been developed to recognise the work of teaching assistants in contributing to learning in the new school workforce. The professional relationship between teaching and support staff has become further established to the benefit of our children, their teachers and teaching assistants in a great many schools across the country.

The program of HLTA development, led by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) has successfully achieved an expansion of training and assessment provision, allowing thousands of teaching assistants and support staff to gain this valuable status as a tangible recognition of their skills and contribution to learning in our schools.

We hope you will find the information and links on this website useful as you seek to find out more about HLTA status. The VT Four S HLTA team is always pleased to help with individual enquiries. Please refer to the contacts page to access the appropriate advice.

This video lets you find out more about the exciting work that HLTAs are doing in our schools and lets you hear from teaching assistants who have actually gained the status.
